Responsibilities

As a Cost Estimator Consultant at Peritia, you will deliver meticulous, high-quality work products and meet critical deadlines. In this role, you will engage with clients, visit job sites, analyze project data, and develop cost estimates. You will also provide forensic support by reviewing project documentation to identify issues and assist with claims resolution.

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Cost Estimating & Analysis:
    • Create, maintain, and analyze financial models and databases.
    • Review, validate, and verify cost estimates.
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bases of estimate.
    • Perform quantity takeoffs and scope reviews based on project drawings.
    • Analyze technical issues affecting project costs.
  • Project Documentation & Reporting:
    • Review project cost control documents and estimates.
    • Prepare project status presentations and update reports.
    • Document findings with a high level of quality and organization.
  • Forensic & Claims Analysis:
    • Review contracts, daily reports, RFIs, change orders, and other documents.
    • Quantify damages and analyze project cost impacts.
    • Conduct detailed research, fact-finding, and analysis to resolve claims.

Qualifications & Skills

We are seeking professionals who demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, thrive under deadlines, and can handle multiple projects effectively. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Location: Houston, Texas.
  • Experience: 3-8 years in cost estimating for commercial and residential projects.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management.
  • Software Proficiency: Xactimate, RSMeans, Timberline, Bluebeam, and/or Etakeoff.
  • Key Skills:
    • Analytical thinking and creative problem-solving.
    • Strong written and verbal communication.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) experience is a plus.
    • Experience with proactive and forensic/claims estimating.
    • Familiarity with insurance claims processes.
    • Certifications: CEP or other estimator certifications are highly desirable.
